Fuel and electricity information
The ABARE Fuel and Electricity Survey consists of 3 forms – each of which has been designed to collect energy information from specific industry sectors. Most survey participants will only need to complete Form A. The purpose of each survey form is outlined below.
General information
- Please report in physical quantities, do not report in dollars.
- Please report all fuels and electricity consumed and produced on a fiscal year basis (1 July – 30 June). Where data is compiled on another basis, please indicate the period used. Where actual data is not available, please provide careful estimates.
- All forecast data should be based on the operation’s production plans or the change in expected growth rates. Forecasts should also reflect planned or proposed changes to fuels, capacity expansion, energy efficiencies, etc.
- No information is required for fuels consumed in vehicles used on public roads.
- Where fuel oil or industrial diesel is used, please provide sulphur content (maximum weight %).
- For self generated electricity, please provide data for the fuel used in the generator as well as the electricity generated and electricity consumed as separate data entries.
- Please check the main Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) code representing your core business using the ANZSIC list.
- Summaries of commonly used fuel types and equipment types are attached.
Form A
Fuel consumption and production
Form A is the main survey form – this form records all energy consumed and / or produced in your operation(s).
All fuels – including electricity need to be included on this form.
Information needed to complete Form A:
- Fuel type: eg. diesel, electricity, coal, natural gas, propane, etc.
- Average calorific value: please fill in if known (refer to fuel type summary).
- Unit: eg. litres, tonnes, megajoules, petajoules, kilotonnes, kilowatts, etc.
- Data: energy consumed/produced for each fuel in a financial year.
Form B
Cogeneration of electricity and heat
Form B records information only for cogeneration (simultaneous production) of electricity and heat. The form is designed to enable ABARE to estimate the consumption of energy products chargable to electricity production that are not otherwise recorded.
Form C
Actual and forecast plant operations of public generators
Form C is to be completed by electricity generators only and covers energy consumption and electricity generation by
grid-connected power plants.
